What is GKCLCA?
GKCLCA is an affiliate chapter of the United States Lactation Consultant Association (USLCA) and a member group of the International Lactation Consultants Association (ILCA). The primary goal of the GKCLCA is to advocate for the International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) in the Greater Kansas City area. The GKCLCA also provides educational and network opportunities with others who are interested in the field of lactation.
What is an IBCLC?
An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a health care professional who specializes in the clinical management of breastfeeding. The scope of practice of IBCLCs focuses on providing education and management to promote and support breastfeeding mothers and families. IBCLCs are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE). IBCLCs work in a wide variety of health care settings, including hospitals, pediatric offices, public health clinics, and private practice.

Who can join:
GKCLCA membership is open to all who support and promote breastfeeding. You do not need to be a member of ILCA/USLCA to join this local chapter. You do not need to be an IBCLC to join.*
Annual membership dues are $25.
GKCLCA membership runs on a calendar year (January 1 to December 31).

- to build and sustain a local association that advocates for IBCLCs.
- to enhance the reputation, image and credibility of IBCLCs and ILCA/USLCA in a responsible and professional manner; and
- to serve as a continuing education resource to further the professional growth of IBCLCs, by sharing knowledge gained through research and personal experience.

- Opportunities for networking, collaborating, and mutual support amongst members through local USLCA chapter meetings
- Free CERPs (continuing education) for attending the chapter meetings
- Eligible for USLCA group membership discount
